Kala Health Services - November 2008

posted 01/06/09 16:50:27 by

Introduction

Health project faced many challenges during the month of November. As many staff including the coordinator lost jobs, it took a lot of time and energy to orient and guide the juniors on how to do their work as these also had to assume other responsibilities and roles within the project.

As the project became under staffed, the statistics also got affected greatly as the few staff had little time to raise awareness campaigns for health & body and youth group and general information on health.

Statistics/Indicators

Due to the drastic changes that were made in terms of staffing, the statistics for students got affected as few staff that remained had very little time to handle the project were and also considering that they were learners in terms of carrying out other duties like office management and report writing. The rainy season and repatriation also caused irregularities of attendance of students during the month.

Substantial Problems/Issues

Health & body and other programs attendance went down because it rained so much during the past month. As a result of this bad weather, Students were unable to attend classes. Hope that the statistics will improve as repatriation has also come to an end which also is a major factor as people get disorganized and difficult to follow up during convoys.

Requests/wishes

There is need for more health movies for adults & children which can be purchased from the States since they can rarely be found in Zambia. These DVDs can be on Anatomy, STIs, HIV and AIDS, Woman Anatomy for the women’s Centre and general diseases and prevention.

Upcoming Activities / Events

Since people are busy farming, taking some of these classes in sections, streets will help increase the statistics as people who get tired can want to learn close to their homes instead of walking far to the health education centre
