Kala Health Services - January 2009

posted 02/26/09 16:46:11 by

INTRODUCTION

Health education activities became a bit difficult to run during the month of January as the staffing reduced. The health and body teacher who was also acting as the coordinator in some sense stopped coming for work regularly for over a month as he claimed that he needed to travel to Congo for the funeral for his mother, sister and brother who died mysteriously. His absence created problems with regards to organizing work as the volunteer was not so much used to do report writing and other forms of project management. Finally, the PM Carol and PM assistant Augustine fired the health and body teacher Lumbala WA Lumbala to give a good grip of work to Fazili who will be the coordinator for the project after scaling up.

STATISTICS / INDICATORS

The statistics for men was low for the month of January. This is because the food rations for the camp was reduced into half by WFP and world vision since these organizations were having a crisis with regards to the right quantity to be distributed to the refugees in Kala. Refugees also claimed that they received the kind of food that they did not like (sorghum). This made people especially men to leave the camp so that they can do peace works to buy the kind of food they liked (maize).

REQUESTS / WISHES

The project has all its necessary needs meanwhile.

SUBSTANTIAL PROBLEMS / ISSUES

The youth group has problems with regards to teaching children who are older as they have complicating school timetables and learning hours. These are of ages 10-14. There is always a high number of children 4-10 who might not necessarily remember what they learn hence need to reach to all youth age groups of the camps population.

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES / EVENTS

The youth group will start teaching students from the primary schools ages 10-14. This will be in collaboration with World Vision education office.
