i – SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Project Management

Important topics covered in this subject in the past month are:

  • Skills of a PM which include those of influencing, leadership, delegation and analyzing.
  • The project team
  • Stakeholder management
  • Project planning defined as the process of thinking carefully about something you want to do in the future and deciding how you are going to do it by considering a lot of alternatives. I was so much interested in Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and I was n that it one of the most effective tools to get a task accomplished in time.

I like to see the professor taking us in this subject showing some interest to ensure we cover most of the matters in the course outline before we sit for exams.

Addition, we are working on both assignments of our continuous assessment which are due a week before the exam date.

Micro and Small Enterprise Management

The continuous assessment in this subject has been concluded with a test last week. The results I grabbed were promising of a distinction if at all I can do well in the exams. The single topic we discussed in length this month was the Role of Creativity and Innovation in Entrepreneurship and barriers to creativity.

Entrepreneurs combine resources in new and different ways to solve existing problems. Thus they gain competitive advantage over their rivals. What is more important to me was the awareness of the barriers to creativity which affect me a lot on a number of issues. I always want to find one perfect answer to a problem, to focus on being logical, following the rules and more importantly believing that I am not creative. But from now on I should hold a positive attitude about myself on creativity and believe I can do new wonders provided I remain confident in my abilities to do so.

Legal Aspects of NGOs

In this subject as it is in the above one, we have been discussing only one topic. The difference is that, in this subject, the current topic in the most important topic of the whole subject—it is about the Societies Act, CAP 119 of the Laws of Zambia. It is a guide or measure on how various special associations of people can be established, controlled and supervised for their orderly operations to the betterment of the community. It provides for the better control of societies by registration, supervision and any matters connected and incidental to the smooth operations of societies. it states for instance every society should apply for registration or exemption within 28 days upon it formation; an oragnisation should have a constitution some conditions applying, while failure to apply to the rules contained in this Act results in either guilt of an offense or rescission of the society. there a lot of useful stuffs related to the formation of an NGO in, its legal framework, operations and relation vis-à-vis the government and other stakeholders. We were also given an assignment to submit on the 30th July while the test is scheduled for August 12, 2009.

The experience and the delivery of this professor, Mr. Masiye, are for sure recommendable. Furthermore I have no doubt with him we’ll cover the curriculum.

Sexual Reproductive Health and Sustainable Development

There is no drastic change in the delivery of this subject. What has happened is only the assignment that we have written and submitted. It shocking that in the last session we had with this professor he went back to giving us the course outline comprising of twelve topics while we are left with only three weeks of classes before going in the two weeks study break and one week one of actual exams thereafter.

Information systems for NGOs

The most important discussed in this subject the past month had to do with networking.

ii - PERSONAL ACTIVITIES

I did not have so much to do in my spare time a part from the leadership, study and career skills and English/writing sessions with Audrey—the cold weather was also an obstacle to some of the personal activities.

iii - MISCELLENEOUS

I got to talk to my wife on Saturday 18th July, 2009. She said they are all doing fine, except Anna who had a headache by then. I hope she is O.K now. They are all missing me.
