i – SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
The semester has come to its end with exams looming on Monday 31st August 2009. Preparations are underway but we are attending some classes and working on late assignments in this time of our study break when we were supposed to dedicate all the time to preparing for exams only.
Project Management
More importantly in this subject in this ending month we discussed in length the elements of the project planning and the closure and handover of the project.
We looked at the planning tools:
As for the project closure and handover, we looked at activities to do by the time of closing a project and these include informing all the project stakeholders about the closure of the project, documenting the project, closing accounting and other systems, reviewing and finally writing the closure report to senior management, who will use such report to tie up any loose ends. The topics discussed above were indeed new news to me and I had no idea or personal experience that I could relate to. However, I could remember that FORGE always informs us ahead of time of any project heading to its closure, us being its stakeholders.
I am also happy that the professor kept his promise to cover the curriculum before exams, and actually he did.
Micro and Small Enterprise Management
Not so much had been covered in this subject on the past month. It was only a continuation of creativity, looking on how we can enhance creativity. Among other techniques to enhance creativity are: embracing diversity by employing a diverse workforce, (in terms of gender, background, and work experience); expecting and tolerating failure; viewing problems as challenges and not as drawbacks; providing training and rewarding creativity.
I have realized that, in FORGE, the approach of selecting a diverse team of project facilitators in terms of gender and background is common but always the number of female facilitators surpasses that of male…is there any reason? This subject is bulky and it requires enough time to cover all the topics therein. However we have managed to cover the most important ones and we roughly touched in discussions on those others where we did not have a full lecture.
Legal Aspects of NGOs
We moved on from looking at the procedures of registering a legal society to defining what is known as an unlawful society and the punished associated to operating an unlawful society. An unlawful society is the one which is neither registered nor exempted. Some of the offenses a society or individual may make and punishments associated with them. Any person whose society operating contrary to its objectives or being use for purposes incompatible with peace and good order is liable of to 15000 penal units roughly K 2,700,000; or imprisonment with hard labor for 7 years or to both. Any person who knowingly allows meetings of an unlawful society on their premises commits an offense attracting a fine of 7500 penal units (K 1,350,000).
The test which was scheduled for August 12 had been postponed to August 17 and we passed it well. Another achievement was the completion of the curriculum. The professor has also hinted us on the way the exam paper is likely to come and some areas of concentration.
I must state that I have enjoyed my academic experience with this lecturer. He, in fact has been my favorite professor this semester. His delivery of the course, his ability to mix theory with real life thanks to his rich experience is the legal realm have been of much importance to me.
Sexual Reproductive Health and Sustainable Development
Over the past month I have noticed a bit of change in the professor’s attendance and delivery. We cover topics mostly relating to sustainable development in ecological, social, educational and political aspects and others.
I could see that the increasing threat of climate change, the occurrence of some diseases like cancer and underdevelopment in Africa is substantially a result of lack of initiatives of previous generations to meet their needs without compromising the chance of the present generation to meet their own needs. If no effort is made at present to sustain natural resources as well as the social welfare now, I would say the world would not be inhabitable in 50 years to come.
We submitted all the assignments for our continuous assessment and the results were much promising.
ii - PERSONAL ACTIVITIES
I have done a lot of stretching and strength exercises this month in addition to jogging and press-ups.
iii - MISCELLENEOUS
