i – SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
At the beginning of this month, I went on mid term break for two weeks, from 1st to 15th September. The two week break was very busy with a bunch of assignments. I resumed class on 16th September, 2009. I attended and really enjoyed all the lectures.
During lectures this month we have covered different topics in the following modules:
- Business Administration;
- Finance; the need for short, medium and long-term finance, Sources of finance, Techniques of investment appraisal. .
- People at work; the role of human resource management in the organization, human resource planning.
- Stages in human resources planning; corporate objectives, demand for human resources, supply of labor, operational plans.
- Meeting Human Resources requirements; recruitment, training and development, promotion and redeployment, pay and productivity, retirement and redundancy.
- Recruitment and selection; the aim of recruitment, the legal environment, legislation and requirements regarding recruitment, recruitment policies and procedures, recruitment policy statement, questions to be addressed while hiring people.
- Situational factors for recruitment; internal and external recruitment process, alternatives to recruitment.
- Selection methods and procedures; types of selection devices, types of tests, interviews, checking of references, physical examination.
- Elements of marketing.
I enjoy the most this module. It really gives a clear vision of what exactly human resources management is in an organization. There are things that I used to do while working for FORGE, without knowing any theory of them, and sometimes do wrong. But now through this module, I get a clear vision of what I was doing and correct myself on some of the things I was doing wrong.

- Supply; supply schedule, equilibrium.
- Disequilibrium.
- Comparative statistics.
- Elasticity; demand elasticity, price elasticity of demand, arc elasticity, total revenue.
- Financial Accounting;
- The conceptual framework
- The types of economic decision for which financial statement are likely to be used.
- Scope
- Qualitative characteristics of financial statement.
- Non current assets.
- Intangible assets.
- Goodwill.
- Information systems and theory;
- Case study and presentation
- Managing Communication and professional development;
- Management of knowledge in an organization; how do managers plan the future of the organization. And for managers to plan, they need knowledge.
- Decision making; how a manager can make a good decision.
- Presentations on different topics.
ii – PERSONAL ACTIVITIES
- I went to church on Sundays.
- I attended night classes with Audrey.
- I attended personal meetings with Audrey.
- I entertained myself with some of my hobbies: going for a walk with friends, watching TV and movies, going for a run…
- I did also some of the daily work: going to the market to buy food and prepare my meal.
