This report is for the above mentioned month during my classes and that it’s encompasses personal and other related activities. However, on 18th we were given a week for mid semester break, but for the classes they were great and below are the topics we covered during classes;
i - SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
For Human resource: 360 degree feedback merits and demerits: appraisal Interview meeting: common errors in appraisal: how improve to performance appraisals.
The topics were quite interested that, I have not only learned how it would improve the Organization as whole because of the involvement meaning external and internal raters that is to say superiors, supervisors, subordinators peers and clients / customers (stakeholders) during evaluation and rating, but also aspect of making mistakes such as halo effect, bias prejudice, primacy effect, and central tendency, and again it is important to know strength and weakness of a individuals so that you will be able rate accordingly.
For Industrial Relation; The role of trade unions; The development of trade union in Zambia; parties involved in industrial relation ( Tripartite). In fact, for my understanding that trade union is a body which regulates, protect and improve welfare of its members and also employees as whole that is to say it is established by workers or employees to represent them in the collective bargain with the association of employers or management to see into it that employees welfare are taken care of, but in the situation that employees happen to strike for poor conditions of work or salaries increment and what a few, and this not only employees that are affected for lack of income to sustain their families, hence loss of productions in Industry that affect the consumers or clients, but also the tax to Government that affect as a result providing poor public services and unemployment itself to the Citizens.
For Qualitative; Specification of research; Quantitative verse Qualitative their strength and criticism; I have learned that it is more important to carry out research to any given issue and may be using questionnaire, observation to mention but a few before arriving to the conclusion or indeed seeking expedient way in redress the social problems specifically in organizations, society, community and the like that have diverse cultures, valves and norms, since Organization is defined as the a collection of people with deliberately structure and common objective to achieve, but again people have different backgrounds and perceptions toward work, so that the findings can be applied to improve the situation at hand.
For quantitative methodology; measure of central Tendency; measure of variation; measure of association; It is very fascinating now that we are much concentrating on the formulas and we have already twenty two for calculating a given a question starting from range, mode, median mean deviation, variance, simple group, ungroup frequencies distribution and coefficient of variation C V, but the course is good and I am enjoying doing calculation.
For Organization behavior; work attitude; perception; personality traits /models determinant of personality OB is more interesting course, I have learned that people with high locus want more often to achieve their set goal or control events affecting them while a low locus people who do not want take responsibility or risk in other words they wait for others and join later, and so understanding the perception is the key to human behavior many at times people seeing same situation but of course they interpret it differently. So managers rely so much on individual’s attitude in order to make a right decision especially in enhancing productivity.
ii - PERSONAL ACTIVITIES
I am glad to say that we have being progressing well with our studies not only classes during lectures, but also meeting for group discussion that always bear fruits at the end of it. Did visit Paul’s wife home as well a Sudanese living at north mead for diplomatic mission with the Government of Zambia and in the same venue I also met one Sudanese who works for UNICEF and indeed discuss or share ideas.
I am also glad to mention that what we are learning with Audrey at evening classes assist us so much, let say networking which some of us were somehow poor at and I think it is good to appreciate this fact.
A friend at school decided to lent me his springs for gym in order for me to continue doing exercise body building or fitness that I am doing at least two times a day.
I am ensuring that I utilize the mid semester break with major school activities that is to say revising on management information system so that I clear the remaining subject / course by December this year for Diploma level..
