This monthly report indicates the main school, personal and miscellaneous activities that took place within the month.

i - SCHOOL ACTIVITIES:

On the second Month of this semester, we have covered the below mentioned topics in each of the five modules, namely: Labor Economics, Economic Development, Industrial Economics, Money and Banking and Research Methodology

Economic Development:On the above module, the following topics were covered:

  • Poverty, absolute poverty and relative poverty.
  • Using Human development index (HDI) as an instrument of measuring poverty.
  • Economic planning.
  • Inequality and Poverty. If there is anything human race can do for the benefit of all, it is to work together and eliminate absolute Poverty in any human society, due to fact that this kind of poverty does not give room for human survival.

Labor Economics: What impresses me among the above topic in this module is the Monopolistic Market. In this kind of market, workers right can easily be compromised; because, there few only one employers or few people owning a rare kind of training. And this situation is common in the developing countries.

  • Frictions in the Labor Markets:
  • Monopolistic labor Market.
  • Minimum wages.
  • Quasi-fixed costs.
  • Training investments.

Industrial Economics: Market Structures.

  • Perfect competition
  • Monopoly Market.
  • Monopolistic Market.
  • Duopolistic Market.

Money and Banking:

  • Banking (Operations of a commercial bank)
  • Bank Management.
  • Non- Bank Financial Institutions.

Research Methodology: In my opinion, Observation Research is the most complicated and dangerous to the researcher’s life as he has to hide his or her identity from the people he or she is trying gather information from.

  • Observation Research.
  • Participatory Research.
  • How to select a research topic.

In addition to the topics covered in each module, we had assignment tests in all the five modules.

ii - PERSONAL ACTIVITIES

  • Ridding Bicycle.
  • Maintaining personal sanitation.
  • Listing to music and news.
  • Plying Chess.
  • Having time with my wife.
  • Watching Television.
  • Reading novels and newspapers.
  • Plying Frisbee.
  • Helping my wife with Domestic duties.

iii – MISCELLANEOUS

So far everything is going on well and I can’t wait to finish my last year and do my research paper next. One thing that makes this month so special and unbelievable is the leaving of Paul to Sudan. Paul is so unique in my life in that, he was the first Sudanese for me to meet in Zambia before I was given my Refugees status in this country. It was not easy to see him leave, because he has been a resourceful person to me in terms of sharing ideas and knowledge for all the time we have been together right from 2003 through 2009 in all the places we lived with him, I mean in Meheba Down Lusaka
