i – SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
School in the month of November has been productive. I supposed to study four modules but am taking six. The added two are a Case Study module and Social Research methodology. Otherwise, the usual semester courses with an exemption (of financial Accounting) includes; Human Resource Management, Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Gender Issues in NGO and Communication for Development Support II. These modules are very interesting and quite practical.
I am developing great skills of human relations, team building, group management and increased analysis of leadership in my Human Resource Management class. At this point, I can work with people of different backgrounds with little trouble and I at least know how to go about employee hiring and management. This is one of the skills I think most employers lack, in cases where companies and organizations fail. Most of such failures are as a result of high employee turn over. It is therefore, an opportunity that I have come to be exposed to this knowledge before the practical part of it. It will be useful in my endeavours, as I dream to be an employer someday yet to come.
Another interesting module so far has as well been gender issues in NGO. It is a good supplement to my insightful knowledge about women and development, which I got in last semester’s course of Sexual Reproductive Health and Sustainable Development. I have come to further understand how productive a family, community (society) or nation can be if both sexes are given equal opportunities to explore their capacities. This is one of the lacking or with little emphasis observed practice in my community and I think an emphasis on helping the majority realizing it will make a big difference. Though have not yet had many lectures, another educative module in line with this is communication for development support II. This cause an extension of communication for development support I which I did in the first semester of my second year of studies. The difference is that the one am doing now is much more based on community development education than the general communication for development concepts.
I have not yet started having classes in performance management and evaluation module. Our lecturer of this module has been out and will be available next week and it is a week when we are on break. I believe that it will be an interesting module as well because it shall be some sort of continuation with Project Management module I did last semester. I am looking forward to having it.
ii – PERSONAL ACTIVITIES
My French classes have as usual been in session. I am about to complete a year of studying French. My exams are in two weeks time and I am looking forward to writing them. Passing this level will be a chance for me to study for my advance level program, which will award me a diploma in French from the French Embassy in Zambia via Alliance Francaise program in Zambia. I can’t wait…!!!!
iii – MISCELLANEOUS
FEF – U classes have been on, this month. I have learned a lot about leadership through student leadership presentation sessions. I presented on Abraham Lincoln in addition to Steve Biko and Malcolm X presented by other two students at FORGE house in Lusaka. A further reading on Lincoln gave me a sense of humble, self disciplined kind of leadership.
