i . SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

This month’s classes were basically for winding up with lectures and then start the revision to get ready for exams coming up by the third week of March. The classes in general went well with busy meetings in weekdays with classmates to discuss on important topics and do some work together.

Programming with Java

In this module, we have been having a lot of programming practices and group works with class mates, 60% of the syllabus has been covered but it seems that we will not be able to cover the whole program because we don’t have enough time left to complete the entire syllabus. The remaining part of the syllabus will not affect our exams since it will be based on the covered material, and on the other side, it will not really affect our professional life because we have covered the most important part of the module and the rest can be completed on our own. I have not yet gotten the CA feedback from the lecturer, but I am ready for exams.

Marketing Strategy

We have almost covered the entire syllabus as the lecturer planned it, there is one lecture remaining for us to be done with it. The overall module was well planned and delivered. The lecturer has experience in marketing and had shared with us a lot of work experience facts. I have enjoyed the entire module for the fact that we are meeting with business administration students who are working under marketing departments in big companies based in Lusaka, interaction was therefore enjoyable and boundless.

E-commerce

We have already completed this module and we are just doing some revision before the study break starts. The overall module was so interesting and had given some of us a self-employment business opportunity. Looking at the speed at which ITC is covering the African continent, e-commerce will soon be part of people’s lives as it is in the developed part of the World; people in the USA for instance can shop almost every product and service online while in Africa it is still done in a traditional way. As the foreign online financial services are reaching down the African continent, people will have opportunities to develop online shopping systems that will allow them to contribute to the development and empowerment of their respective communities by allowing them to buy and sell products and services with less effort, effectively and reach the global market. This will not only help individuals but the economy of their countries as well.

Computer Ethics

We covered this module as well and we are just doing some revision before the study break time. I benefited a lot in this module by knowing my real place in the ICT world and how I can responsibly do my work minding the environmental effects of what ever IT technology I can be involved in. I can say I am professionally fit to be an IT professional.

Artificial Intelligence

This was the most challenging module this semester due to lack of necessary material that allow students to apply the knowledge to practical and real world intelligent systems that can solve given problems. Schools don’t have all the necessary resources, this is a challenge form most universities in developing countries of Africa where most of University and College studies are basically theoretical. Our programming skills will help us be creative and create intelligent systems that will help us solve local African problems when we are done with school. The lecturer is well prepared and has a good approach although he was challenged by lack of resources to make classes more interactive.

ii. PERSONAL ACTIVITIES

I have enjoyed being in the company of senior IT practitioner as classmates, their work experience was a big addition on our learning material, and they shared a lot with us. I came to find how important team work is as most of their achievement in their respective companies was a product of teamwork. We kind of learned a lot from their mistakes as they shared with us how they dealt with problems.

iii. MISCELLANEOUS

Nothing important.
