RHS Project Coordinator Blog May 2009 (Note - This blog was written by the refugee Project Coordinator for this project. As English is not her first language, there may be some minor grammatical errors in her writing. Care was taken to clarify any passages that were confusing, while leaving most of the blog untouched in order to preserve her original tone.)

The FORGE health post in Block G aims to teach people about the different sorts of diseases, and also to consult with patients and refer them to clinics. This month we taught almost 80 people about HIV/AIDS, from all different roads in Block G. We first ask the people at the workshop some questions to see what they have learned and thereafter we teach them.

Many people are not aware about how the HIV/AIDS virus spreads from one person to another, how you can know if you are infected, or what the symptoms are. We help fight this ignorance and teach them or remind them of these things. And we also give them condoms, more than 200 this month.

About consultation, we treated around 40 patients. The number is low because we are unable to give medicine, but we do send all patients to the clinic which is specialized to treat them with medicine. We continue to teach all patients about different kinds of diseases including respiratory infections, malnutrition, and dehydration. The people are very happy to receive this knowledge from the facilitators and they are requesting that we continue with the same.
