Summary of project status:

The Coordinator has been conducting HIV/AIDS sensitizations since the halting of drug distribution and they have been very popular. The Coordinator and PM met to formalize her health education outreach initiatives and relevant testing has been created to measure the success of her field activities. She will be conducting one day workshops three to four times per week, with 10 to 20 people at a time, traveling road by road through Zone G. The Coordinator is also interested in forming an anti-AIDS club that uses music, drama, and poetry, to educate the community about HIV and AIDS. She already has the materials for these cultural activities from her work in Rwanda and will provide the PM with a copy to translate by next month.

The Coordinator would also like to create a community health committee in Zone G, and the PM and Block Chairman have plan to meet in May to invite community leadership to attend the workshop. As the Coordinator travels through each road for her field work, she will also spread the word about the anti-AIDS club and plans for the community health committee.

The Coordinator, PM, and Block Chairman met to discuss how best to fill the advocate position. The Coordinator felt that since her work will now be predominantly in the field, an advocate who is unable to speak Kinyarwanda will not be very helpful to her or the project. She also commented that she had much greater need for an advocate when she was overwhelmed with patients visiting the service center site. Now that this is no longer the case, she has been able to manage her field responsibilities well on her own, and can continue to do so without an advocate.

Please see FHS report for meetings attended or held jointly by RHS and FHS staffs.
