Summary of project status:
The PM, Coordinator, and Block Chairman held a community meeting to discuss the formation of a Block G Community Health Committee. Community members felt that their commitment to the six week workshop series would be inadequate at this time given the harvest season, but showed enthusiasm about the idea and asked us to consider commencing in July when people have more time to spend away from their fields.
The Coordinator’s HIV/AIDS sensitizations have been going well, and testing was conducted properly this month. RHS is responsible for coordinating activities in Block G for the camp wide teenage pregnancy awareness campaign in June. The Coordinator met with the Block G community school teachers to recruit students to participate in the campaign.
The PM and RHS coordinator held several meetings with the Meheba Clinic Coordinator and Clinic D staff to discuss increased partnership to facilitate the distribution of medicines in Block G. As of May 25th, two community health workers from Block D have been assigned to work in Block G, full time, from Monday through Friday. They are conducting rapid malaria determination testing, and have also been diagnosing other illnesses and disbursing medicines donated by Clinic D and RHS. They are working out of one RHS room, which allows them utilize RHS materials like the scale, wash basins, and bed, while serving the Block G community with much needed patient consultation and treatment.
The RHS coordinator also attended a week long workshop on reproductive health and HIV/AIDS conducted by Grassroot Soccer at the end of the month. Please see FHS report for other meetings attended or held jointly by RHS and FHS staffs.
