Summary of project status/future activities:
In January the RHS employee joined with FHS and the SM to meet with Ministry of Health officials to discuss a malaria testing and treatment program in Zone G. Bornson of MOH was very excited about having a malaria testing and treatment facility in Zone G and was open to the idea of working together to continually improve services to this under-served community. The RHS employee has been working this past month with a MOH Community Health Worker based in Block D to test and treat malaria but they have run out of RDTs and Coartem. While we are still waiting on a shipment of RDTs and Coartem, it is our hope that this program can fully begin as soon as possible to start better serving the Zone G community.
As well, the RHS Coordinator continued doing sensitization's and meeting with the community to discuss Malaria. She handed out condoms and worked with the children on Grassroots Soccer to teach them about HIV/AIDS.
Future activities and projections:
We are in the process of working with FHS to arrange a Voluntary Counseling and Testing day in Zone G. As soon as we have materials within FHS to arrange this, the two projects will work together to organize this service in Zone G. The RHS Coordinator has been doing an excellent job teaching the community about HIV/AIDS and other STIs as well as teaching the school children the importance of knowing their status through Grassroots Soccer. Providing a day for testing in Zone G would be a great addition to the knowledge she is spreading.
