Summary of project status and achievements:
The libraries continued running as usual this month. School opening in mid-January boosted attendance, as the students all returned from vacation. Rain has continued to have a negative effect on the amount of people who come to the library, but my librarians assure me that this happens every year.
G, F, B, and C Libraries are in the midst of running a Question and Answer game. Five to ten questions are printed on a piece of paper and left in the library for the students to take. Over the course of 2 weeks, the students are free to search for the answers to the questions in the reference books of the library. When they are done, they hand in their completed copies. Whoever gets all the questions right, gets a prize, such as bath soap, a toothbrush, exercise books, etc. Meheba Friendly Library is doing the game a bit differently, wherein 2 questions are written on the chalkboard each week and the game will occur over a longer stretch of time. Both students and community members seem to be responding well to the new activity.
Our Meheba Friendly Librarian, Titus, has quit in order to spend more time searching for scholarship. The PM has replaced him with Domingo, our former FEF-scholar. Domingo trained with Robert, the Head Librarian, for a few days last week and will officially begin as the librarian on Monday, February 2nd. He is intelligent and capable, and the PM believes it will be an excellent fit.
Future activities and projections:
As cultivation season comes to a close, the librarians and the PM are looking to take the opportunity to start some new programming. Plans to start programming in Meheba Friendly Library have been somewhat delayed with the recent staff changes, but the PM is confident that Domingo will be a fast learner and we will be able to start in February or March.
