Summary of project status and achievements:
This month, the libraries ran as usual. Meheba Friendly, ‘B’, ‘D’, ‘F’, and ‘G’ libraries all completed Question & Answer quizzes and prizes were distributed to the winners from each block. The communities appear to be very engaged with the activity and it will be running every other month. The librarians are all preparing new Questions & Answers this week to hand into the Project Manager for review.
The ‘C’ librarian, Sitimela, took leave again this month without notifying the Project Manager. When he returned in mid-May, the PM spoke with him about this practice and it was decided that with his responsibilities as a teacher, he does not have the time to be a librarian. Thus, he has decided to resign as of June 1st. This timing turns out to be somewhat fortunate, as the PM was planning to close the ‘C’ library in June or July. The PM will discuss the issue further with the headmaster, but this will probably mark the end of the ‘C’ library.
Additionally, the ‘A’ Basic librarian has also resigned. Christina had been working in the library with a teacher from the basic school, and this teacher’s wife accused Christina of having an affair with her husband. Christina has decided to resign in order to avoid controversy and possible violence. This resignation is also coming at a good time, as the PM was also planning on closing ‘A’ Basic library due to its low levels of attendance and proximity to Meheba Friendly. This occurrence will also be followed up with meetings between the PM and headmaster of the school.
After speaking to the community in Block ‘F’, the PM has decided to keep that library open. Attendance is fairly high and the community seems to value the project. All other libraries will remain open.
Future activities and projections:
The new boxes of books will be distributed in June. The next round of Questions and Answers will begin towards the end of June or the beginning of July.
