Summary of project status and achievements:
This month the libraries continued to operate well and saw increased attendance over the last month due to the return of students to the schools. It also became known this month that people from as far away as Solwezi are coming to use Meheba Friendly Library.
A quiz was not held this month due to the lack of a printer, but will resume next month.
Future activities and projections:
The libraries will have a quiz round in the coming month. As well, the PM will continue sustainability discussions with the librarians.
Indicators and statistics:
Please see attached M&E spreadsheet.
Substantial problems or issues:
On October 7, 2009 the ‘B’ Librarian resigned. His last day will be October 9, 2009. In light of this, the PM is faced with the decision to either hire a new librarian or begin the process of longer term sustainability. While this topic has been brought up with the librarians, it is in the beginning stages. The idea has been put forward by the librarians to discuss the situation with the headmasters of the school and see if they would be willing to petition the Ministry of Education for funds to run the libraries as part of the schools.
Currently the B library has the lowest attendance of the FORGE operated libraries. In the past both Block A and Block C libraries have been turned over to the schools to run. As it has been done in the past, this might be the best solution for the B library at this time.
