Summary of project status and achievements:
The question and answer quiz concluded in February and prizes will be awarded at the beginning of March. We received a donation of pencils and erasers from the Flip Flop Foundation that was used as the prizes for the quiz. The quizzes were well received by the community and well attended. Even the B Library that is no longer directly under FORGE held a quiz.
This month also saw the start of a sign in sheet for the Library Coordinator who has been experiencing some attendance problems. This sign in system is designed to track the time spent by the coordinator at each library and with each librarian.
As well, the G Library has begun running reading circles and extra learning sessions in the afternoons for pupils in G. They have been well attended and are liked by the community. Several students have shown up to have stories read to them or to learn extra math lessons from both the librarian and a volunteer, Pacific.
Future activities and projections:
The libraries will continue to operate, though with the end of the term in March the numbers may drop slightly. The librarians are still working on some new programming to help keep the numbers high during that period.
Indicators and statistics:
Please see attached M&E spreadsheet.
Substantial problems or issues:
Unfortunately with the end of the protest by many Congolese refugees at Road 36 the camp lost many Congolese refugees who have chosen to relocate to other camps. Among these Congolese refugees was Paul, the D librarian. His parents were deported back to Congo and he no longer felt safe in Meheba and made the decision to leave. The position is being advertised for and interviews will be held in early March to fill the position as quickly as possible. In the meantime the other librarians and the SM Assistant have stepped up to fill the position and keep the library operating.
