FMI Agro Project Coordinator Blog April 2009 (Note - This blog was written by the refugee Project Coordinator for this project. As English is not her first language, there may be some minor grammatical errors in her writing. Care was taken to clarify any passages that were confusing, while leaving most of the blog untouched in order to preserve her original tone.)

This month we offered a business management workshop to the community in Meheba Camp. The workshop was a wonderful opportunity to the community to learn about business management, entrepreneurship and accounting.

  • Business management: We talked about how the community can lead their businesses and be successful in earning more money through planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling. We said also that the community can have ambition, leadership, responsibility, hard work, organization and profit directed as characteristics of successful business management.
  • Entrepreneurship: We discussed the problems the community has and we tried to propose the solutions. Then we built a business opportunity. The entrepreneur can have the ability to create, to innovate, to invent the new ideas or things and aim to have profit. Hard work, market demand, managerial competence and sufficient capital are the factors of successful entrepreneurship, organization and business.
  • Accounting: We saw the key points to understand accounting such as record, spending, revenue, assets, liability, pricing, how to calculate a profit and budgeting.

Thirty attended the workshop and they were very interesting. Before the workshop we evaluated them and results were very poor but when we finished the workshop we again evaluated them and the result was good.

For agro-loans, we are waiting to harvest then plan for next season.
