Community-Driven Repatriation Center - February 2009

Community Driven Repatriation Center February 2009

Summary of project status and achievements:

All CDRC classes ran smoothly in the month of February. Business Affairs and Community economics continued as scheduled, and Non-Violent Communication completed one intake this month. CDRC community outreach was affected by the rain, as the outrereach worker was unable to go in the community while it was raining. Short and intense repatriation classes began a bit late because of a delay in recruitment. SFCG continued to take place twice per week, and reached 40 students this month.

Senior Field Officer Mr. Ndala from UNHCR has continued to be very involved with SFCG and provided new print and audio materials to the teachers. Wakilongo requested to UNHCR that they make photocopies of these materials so they can also be in the library, and UNHCR obliged. Participants have been very committed and enthusiastic about the short and intense classes; Wakilongo is very happy. However, he reported attendance issues in longer CDRC classes, and suggested that the CDRC staff collaborate on a survey to find out why people aren’t coming to class. He finds these attendance issues a bit confusing, as students in the short classes complain that they want longer classes, and the very same students, when enrolled in the long clases, frequently do not show up.

CDRC will explore the reasons why students are not attending longer classes, and work to improve attendance.
